ID marking with mini microchip

Guldveterinären uses mini microchips that are only a quarter of the size of the standard microchips usually used for ID marking of cats and dogs.

Guldveterinären has used mini microchips since they came on the market in 2012. They make marking much gentler for the animal. Of course, a prick is a prick and is always felt to some degree. But this was a very welcome improvement!

Remember that all dogs and cats must by law be ID-marked and registered with the Swedish Board of Agriculture!

The new marking and registration requirement for cats came into force on 1 January 2023, which I think is fantastic! Unfortunately, a chip does not make your cat trackable when it is out and about (that requires a GPS tracker). But a found cat can be identified and the owner contacted if it has been registered correctly. Marking and registration therefore increase the chance of getting your beloved lost cat back. It also raises the status of cats in society, especially as there are already far too many homeless cats.

The mini microchips follow the current ISO standard and work exactly like the older, larger chips.

A travelling cat or dog with an EU pet passport needs a chip so that it can be identified and its owner verified.

Microchipping can normally be done on an awake animal, unless it is too difficult to handle.
Feel free to hold its favourite treat in front of its nose and distract it from the prick by scratching somewhere else. Sometimes some restraint is needed for safe handling.

Very difficult animals may need a sedative before microchipping. So if sedation is given for another reason, it is a good opportunity to microchip an unmarked animal at the same time.

Via the contact form you can book microchipping for your animal.
